Who can come?
Any Rotary club, Rotarian, or Rotary project team is welcome, traveling as a group or independently. Friends and family who aren't Rotarians are welcome too. No prior service trip experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to walk uneven terrain at moderate elevation.
What exactly is included in the $1,995?
Seven nights of lodging across Antigua, Lake Atitlán, and Santiago Atitlán, all breakfasts plus welcome and farewell dinners, some lunches depending on the day's itinerary, all ground and boat transportation, bilingual guides, and service project materials. It also includes $200 to Lake Atitlán Rotary Club and $200 to a community project your club chooses. International airfare, travel insurance, most other lunches and dinners, and personal expenses are not included.
How do we choose which community project our $200 supports?
During the trip you'll meet our partner organizations across all six Rotary areas of focus. Your club selects the project after seeing the work firsthand, and we handle the transfer directly.
What logistics do you handle, and what do we need to arrange ourselves?
Participants book their own international flights and travel insurance. Once you land in Guatemala, our team coordinates all lodging, meals, ground transportation, guides, and the daily schedule, and we customize the itinerary to your club's interests before you arrive.
What should I pack?
Keep it simple. The highlands are tropical by day and cool in the evenings, so layers work best. We'll send a full packing list once your club is onboarded.
What about health, safety, and vaccinations?
Standard travel immunizations are recommended; check with your physician or a travel clinic before departure. Lake Atitlán sits at moderate elevation, and accommodations range from modern in Antigua to simpler in smaller villages. Travel insurance with emergency evacuation coverage is required.
Is any part of the cost tax-deductible?
The $400 directed to Lake Atitlán Rotary Club and your chosen community project may be eligible as a charitable contribution. Check with your tax advisor for guidance specific to your situation.
Can we bring donations for the community?
Yes. Let us know in advance so we can point you to what our partners actually need and make sure donations reach the right project.
